Africans & the Perilous Journeys in the Mediterranean Seas!
Saturday July 31st, 2016, two
Nigerian youngsters were pictured in tears over the drowning of their mother in
the Mediterranean seas. Last week
several teenagers were pulled out from the dangerous waters. And just Six months back the body of a child
washed up in the beaches of a remote Island – stone dead! As if in a movie – or a trance, week after
week dinghy boats unfit to undertake such risky journeys capsizes under stormy
weather and tens of hundreds are emptied into the dark cold waters. Many of the desperate migrants never get to
be saved. Yet despite the rising death
toll, the deluge to reach Europe mostly through Italy intensifies without
abatement – and the horror spectacle continues to unfold. This is the part one
of the story.
The second, by these intending migrants is
crossing into no man’s land where
they are raped, abused or beaten to death.
The “lucky” ones who “make” it to their preferred destination become
“veterans” or “captains of their destiny”.
“Bad leadership is the direct cause of the race to beat the dangerous Mediterranean,
Sahara desert and elsewhere”, said one Aliyu Mohammed, a self employee who once
contemplated the risky journey.
“Sometimes, the idea occurs to you and you want to give it a trial”, he
told The ExposeNews. “This is what
leaders have made life to become, in Africa”, another told The ExposeNews. The fellow, one Solomon Iyase, a self
employee disclosed “our leaders are so selfish, opportunistic, look at Robert
Mugabe, Late Mobutu, Eyadema, and Omar Bongo”, he lamented. They were driven by one passion: greed... and
dictatorship!
And you want to ask this question: Why would
people contemplate this perilous mission with imminent death in store? The answer is simple: Bad Government.
Africa, since freedom from their Colonial
Masters have been thrown into a cauldron of crude leadership, nepotism,
corruption, suppression and inexplicable policy summersaults. The result is exploitation, economic plunder,
hunger, starvation, sickness and utter neglect!
As a result of the increasingly overbearing
reign of , terror, Africans, faced with
bleak future are left with little choice than to flee and seek for greener
pastures – no matter what is involved!
Some of them have gone to the extent of daring the wilds of the Sahara
deserts.
