Two
vibrant organisations, the League of Patriotic Youths, Lagos and Abuja Chapters
have extolled the virtues of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, calling him a
pacesetter in modern act of governance. The youths spoke on Tuesday, September
3, at their yearly workshop with the theme: “Setting
Appropriate Structures for Delivery of Good Governance in Nigeria”. Speaking
in Abuja, the youths led by their astute President, Comrade Vincent Egbonwonu
said the former governor did so well in his 4 years in office providing
dividends of democracy for Lagosians and ended up praying for more of leaders
like him in government. The Comrade referred to the former governor as a man of
integrity, who also displayed strong character traits and honesty. “He worked round the clock providing good
roads, infrastructure, and social amenities for the people of Lagos State”.
The comrade who called on the APC party leaders never to shelve their support
for the former Governor, noted that the one-day workshop was a yearly affair
and was part of their own way of contributing to making Nigeria great. Majority
of the speakers at the workshop suggested that President Buhari should put in
place a system of reward for performing governors and efficient ministers which
would ultimately allow them to do better elsewhere. “Those governors who have
performed should be encouraged; there are better ways for you to appreciate
them”, he stressed. The workshop also suggested that Governors should strive to
build on the legacies of their predecessors to stimulate rapid growth in the
society.
In Lagos, Comrade Charles
Afe-Ikhage blasted the careless attitude of handling security votes; he also
condemned the frivolous aspect of using State funds for birthday parties, adverts,
wonder achievements, frequent overseas travels. But the Comrade, in a sombre
tone, while recalling the contributions of former governor Ambode to what Lagos
is today, agreed that all parties involved in the Ambode’s saga to bury the hatchet
and move on pointing out that sleeping dogs should be allowed to lie. “I was in Oshodi the other day and marvelled
at the Bus Terminal Ambode constructed; I also used the 10 lane Murtala
Muhammed airport link way Ambode also constructed and felt proud living in
Lagos” the comrade disclosed. Speaking further, he admitted that they were
surprised that the same Ambode was now the subject of a committee probe by the
Lagos State House of Assembly. “I
sincerely believe that something went wrong somewhere; but whatever it is
should be addressed amicably”, he pleaded. Comrade Charles said the
Assembly people should display maturity and work for the common good of
Lagosians and the party adding that next year’s workshop would focus on “delineation of roles, functions and responsibilities
to the people for democratic advancement
A recent court order widely regarded as an assault on customs and decency, seeking the exhumation of the corpse of a prominent Igbo chief, is largely seen as a misuse of judicial authority, and fear the backlash may lead to disruption of communal peace. By Clement Ebaku and Lucy Okulougbo reporting from Owerri. Tension has escalated surrounding the Amuchienwa family following a contentious order issued on 5 December 2025 by Justice I.O. Agugua, directing the exhumation of the remains of the late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Dona Amuchienwa, who was laid to rest on 17 October 2025. The directive, made nearly two months after the burial, has sparked widespread outrage, with many describing it as a shocking affront to the dignity of the deceased. Imolites are questioning the circumstances under which the ruling emerged, with reactions trailing a media release by Ms. Chinyere Igwegbe (formerly Amuchienwa), the late Chief’s former wife, whose marriage ended more than 32 years ago.
