The
El-Rufai phenomena is refusing to die down in Abuja, the Federal Capital. The reason is simple: residents are fed up
with the unwholesome and growing destruction of the City by an inexplicable
gale of maladministration, acute dereliction of duty by all those who came
after El-Rufai-- be it in the FCDA, AMAC, or Federal level.
As
a result, Residents watch in absolute amazement the reckless breakdown of vital
state assets, particularly access roads, bridges, resulting in stretches of
traffic gridlock. “What we are facing in
Abuja today is unusual”, said Alhaji Ibrahim Umar. “Those in authorities are so careless, it is
surprising this is the City El-Rufai let behind”, he lamented.
Any
visitor arriving the City of Abuja for the first time would be starkly
disappointed that the structures put in place by the resilient El-Rufai are now
systematically destroyed. “El-Rufai
built this City; El-Rufai set up access roads, added Fillip to recreation”,
observed Umar. “But today where are
we? Those in charge are virtually
sleeping”, he said. This is sad and
frustrating.
Now
Abuja residents spend grueling hours going to work. Returning home is even worse. “It’s like hell and you keep wondering where
in heaven sake has our conscience gone?” one resident lamented. These people struggle to get into office, and
after that, they go to sleep because there is never any punishment for
indolence. “The fact is, there is so much indiscipline going on; and it is
regrettable”, Umar claims.
