NIGERIA POLICE, FCDA OFFICIALS CRITICISED FOR INEPTITUDE

Members of the Nigerian Police and the Federal Capital Development Authority have come under growing attack for their unprecedented ineptitude and drawback to modem realities.

Speaking at a fora in Abuja, the Secretary-General of the Disciples of Democracy and Good Governance condemned the security personnel’s,  mostly at night,  for frustrating motorists at their ubiquitous check points causing long queues.  Oftentimes, as has been observed, the unbearable delays which stretches for hours amounts to nothing as the gun-weilding security personnels merely smiles at you – or solicit for favours.  “My father, a retired police officer did this in the 70’s.  I am surprised our policemen cannot rise beyond crude check points and physical checking of particulars”, said Christopher Ogboluabi.  “People are tired and want to get home, they are trapped in checkpoints; why can’t they, the police change tactics?” he questioned.

But another Nigerian, Mr. Tunde Agboola lashed out at the top officials for making Nigeria look like a banana republic.  “I am amazed here, we have a situation where there is no light; then now, no road freedom.  You get exhausted through delays and frustration at police checkpoints and finally, blackout awaits you at home”!  Cried Mr. Agboola.

He urged the police to be mindful of this archaic strategy and called on the hierarchy to change.  “It’s not every day they mount checkpoints”, he stressed.  “That’s a lazy way of policing crime”, he warned.

On their part, the FCDA officials were asked to wake up from their slumber and go out and repair badly dilapidated roads.  “It is shameful that no road is good in FCT.  Very shameful”, declared one Alhaji Ibrahim Biu.  “FCDA officials can’t even patch potholes; they come to office and literally sleep off only to collect their salary month end”, he intoned.  “We have to be accountable to ourselves.  We can’t continue this way.  They must repair our roads”, he charged. For many years running, the short route between Gudu and Lokogoma, Gaduwa and Lokogma Apo Dutse and Lokogoma has remained comatose. Nobody has thought it fit to work on the road that would have made simplified the burgeoning population in that axis. But at last there is no reprieve because FCDA officials are as sleep.

STOP THE ILLEGAL DETENTIONS IN ICPC NOW BUHARI TOLD

The Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Matters Offences Commission (ICPC) were set as an anti-corruption agency to rein in persons involved in suspected shady deals and sharp practices. But in recent times as investigations have revealed The commission appears to have derailed as it is fast losing that tag as an anti-corruption agency.  Preliminary investigations have unearthed some sharp practices of illegal detentions on spurious charges, unauthorized raid and sealing of victims houses and unwarranted blockages of victim’s accounts. “This bad practice must be discontinued” declared Mr Rafiu Ibrahim, Secretary-General of Association for Good Governance and Transparency (AFGT). Throwing more light on the sad development, the Secretary-General wondered why the ICPC would detain without charges any suspected Nigerian for upwards of two weeks without proceeding to court, while systematically extorting various sums of money from the detained Nigerian.  The Secretary-Ge...
