FASHOLA, FCT MINISTER CHALLENGED TO START REPAIRING ROADS.

The popular Front for the Good Governance has challenged Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola and Muhammad Bello, the FCT Minister to start repairing roads in the capital city. Making the call in Abuja, representatives of the group took turns to level accusations of non-performance on the part of the ministers. “Abuja city has deteriorated; there are no more good roads, only pot holes everywhere”, one of the speakers lamented. Another said “How can ministers come to office every day and sleep off? Are there no more accountability? This is strange”. Another speaker recalled the days of El-Rufai, now governor of Kaduna State who went all out to dramatically reconstruct the capital city. “What we are enjoying today are the works of El-Rufai. No minister has surpassed his activities to date”, the speaker disclosed. The group observed that whereas Abuja is growing fast in population and infrastructure, there are absolutely no plans to expand the network of roads; now the city is crowded and almost busting at the seams. “What we hear of are television statements and radio announcements, nothing more. Then perhaps fake promises that runs through the years unfulfilled”, decried Mr. Usman. “We can’t continue to live like this”, he stated. “look at major road junctions, Kabusa junction, Galadimawa junction, Nepa Junction Gudu, Gaduwa are all hot spots in Abuja raging for years without any intervention from government. “But when it comes to demolition, that’s when you see Development Control comes alive”, with bogus reasons. The group observes that the same applies to AMAC-Abuja Municipal Area Council-who are perpetually adept at collection of fines, levies and issuing permits-without doing anything to add value to the society.

STOP THE ILLEGAL DETENTIONS IN ICPC NOW BUHARI TOLD

The Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Matters Offences Commission (ICPC) were set as an anti-corruption agency to rein in persons involved in suspected shady deals and sharp practices. But in recent times as investigations have revealed The commission appears to have derailed as it is fast losing that tag as an anti-corruption agency.  Preliminary investigations have unearthed some sharp practices of illegal detentions on spurious charges, unauthorized raid and sealing of victims houses and unwarranted blockages of victim’s accounts. “This bad practice must be discontinued” declared Mr Rafiu Ibrahim, Secretary-General of Association for Good Governance and Transparency (AFGT). Throwing more light on the sad development, the Secretary-General wondered why the ICPC would detain without charges any suspected Nigerian for upwards of two weeks without proceeding to court, while systematically extorting various sums of money from the detained Nigerian.  The Secretary-Ge...
