President
Muhammadu Buhari has increased the responsibilities of his Chief of Staff,
Alhaji Abba Kyari by directing newly sworn -in Ministers to channel all
correspondence through his office. The
directive was first made at the end of the Presidential retreat for the ministers
designate on Tuesday and repeated again after the swearing in of the ministers
at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, last Wednesday. With the President’s order, no minister will
have access to him without Kyari’s clearance.
The Borno born technocrat was first appointed August 27, 2015 and
reappointed July 5, 2019.
The
Chief of Staff manages the President’s schedule and correspondence and any
other duties that may be assigned by the President.
However,
reactions from a broad spectrum of life contend that the elevation of Kyari’s office
to superintend ministers was not a healthy development.
