AMBODE: PRESSURE GROUPS RISE IN DEFENCE CONDEMNS ASSEMBLY PROBE.

Two pressure groups, the South East Professionals (Abuja chapter) and the League of Patriotic Youths also in Abuja have risen in stout defence of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode branding the move by the Lagos State House of Assembly to probe him as provocative, worrisome and sheer blackmail. The groups in different press conferences held at the capital city charged the Assembly members to be mindful of being used as cannon fodders in the destruction of an innocent soul warning that their game plan has already failed like a pack of cards and cannot stand the test of time.
The groups admonished the Assembly members to desist from pursuing shadows and  concentrate on the sacred mandate of making non-partisan laws that would deliver the electorate out of poverty. They stressed that the move to probe the former governor was  laughable, childish and a cheap
Addressing reporters, Mr. Kenneth Okoh, President of the South East Professionals said it is regrettable that the Lagos State House of Assembly can be manipulated in such a vindictive manner as to abandon the reason for their being elected. “Ambode has not done anything wrong”, he told the reporters. “Look at the names published by CNN concerning corrupt leaders, that’s where they should start from if they want to probe”, he stated.
Mr. Okoh told the reporters that if the Assembly members can be manipulated in this fashion, then there was little hope for the common man-and the voiceless. “This is not the democracy we should bequeath to our children; we are supposed to be guided by the principles of justice, fairness and equity”, he stressed.
Also speaking to newsmen, Chief Kunle Adebayor said the action of the Lagos House of Assembly amounted to abuse of power and violation of Ambode’s human rights. “Recall that he was to be impeached after he was cheated out of second term? Also remember that he had his budget cut short and consequently starved of funds? Now, they say they want to probe him” “what manner of people are we?” he asked, wondering if the Assembly men are themselves exonerated from blame.
The President of the League said his group was highly disappointed that Ambode, being an APC man would be treated in this shoddy manner, adding that   “whatever happens to our brother’s keeper”? He disagreed that all mechanism for resolving whatever dispute that exist has been exhausted before rushing to wield the big stick. “ this is a civilised society, not the jungle; the Assembly members just returned from Retreat after forming a new cabinet; they ought to have hit the ground running rather than embark on this shadow boxing exercise that is bound to lead to nowhere." something must be terribly wrong with us if this is the kind of dirty politics we play", he declared.
He described as unfortunate the obvious silence of the entire APC apparatchiks for entirely selfish reasons signalling that the fear of godfatherism may actually be  the beginning of wisdom as widely acknowledged in the political circles. "Lagosians elected real men to serve them not this type of charlattans who would stop at nothing to sell their mothers for a mess of pottage", he added.
