RIGHTS GROUP HAIL OBASEKI, ENDORSE 2ND TERM BID



The Disciples for Democracy has hailed the stand by Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki in demanding for probe into the utilization of the N20 billion emergency funds allegedly expended by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on projects in the State in the last six months.  The governor even announced that he was exploring the option of suing contractors handling the Commission’s projects for delivery of sub-standard projects, which caused flooding in parts of the State.

He vowed to stop NDDC contractors from executing sub-standard projects as there is need for synergy between the State Government and NDDC in delivery of quality projects.  “This kind of action is embarrassing to our administration”, the governor was quoted as saying.  “We don’t want people to be confused about the roads we are constructing and the sub-standard roads executed by NDDC”.

But the Rights group through its Secretary-General, Mr. Ohimai Ikhidero praised the governor calling him “The people’s messiah”.

Mr. Ikhidero said the Edo State governor is not given to deception, and in fact sees corruption as an anathema.  He therefore enjoined the Edo State people to endorse him for a second term in office.
