AMBODE: CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYER DISMISS ASSEMBLY ALLEGATIONS

A solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and current Chairman League of Patriotic Lawyers with the post call experience of more than 3 decades, has punched holes in the allegations made against Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode by members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The lawyer, Barrister Abubakar Yesufu dismissed the allegations as non-issue.  “Who amongst them has more integrity than Ambode in the first instance? Let me see the one who is in terms of morality more than this man they are chasing”, he queried.
The Barrister charged further:  “They are not saying he did not buy the buses; they are saying the procedure he followed was flawed”, he stated.  “How can that be possible in a close nit set-up like the House of Assembly?
The Barrister argued that there was no way the executive can appropriate let alone disburse funds without the authority of the legislature and it is a very well-known fact that Ambode was not a dictator.  “If you have an axe to grind with somebody, that’s understandable, but being deceitful about it is what is annoying”, Barr. Abubakar declared.
He went on to explain that this is the first time somebody who performed creditably in office is being haunted for personal and private reasons.  “This is very absurd.  I have never met Ambode before but my street today in Lekki, has Street lights installed because of his foresight”, he added.
The Chairman League of Patriotic Lawyers reiterated that Ambode is full blooded APC, and a Yoruba man. He declared that he, Ambode has their support and they would defend him using constitutional means. He therefore advised the Lagos Assembly members to retrace their steps. ‘Whatever happens to family affair settlement methods?” he asked.
The former Governor has since gone to court to stop the probe by the Lagos Assembly.
In a related development, another group known as Lagos State Action for Good Democracy (LSAGD) has called on the Lagos State House of Assembly to focus on assisting the present Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu succeed in office rather than pursue Ambode.  They explained that nothing good would ever come out of the probe like others before this that with more legislative support to Sanwo-Olu, Lagosians would enjoy their services more.
