The
embattled Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has come under
increasing attack to resign over his deepening involvement in corruption. Two Supreme Court Judges, Justices Inyang
Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta, lately made damaging allegations against him in
separate letters addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud
Muhammad. They alleged that Mr. Amaechi
bandied the name of Mr. President in mandating them to deliver Judgments in favor
of APC’s appeals in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Abia States. Mr. Amaechi had earlier come under series of
attacks in his handling of Rivers State finances as former Governor and his
misappropriation of a whopping 32 billion naira earmarked for a failed Power
project. “Amaechi is having too many
baggages and the President should do away with him”, said Mr. Adetokunbo Mumini
of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project. The Coalition for Transparency Accountability
and Good Governance through their Spokesman, Mr. Mike Opia said “It was time he
steps down as he is making Mr. President’s fight against corruption
difficult”. As for Mr. Liborous Oshoma,
a practicing lawyer, he said, “Mr. Amaechi should leave office quietly because
what is good for the goose is sauce for the gander”.
