ACTIVISTS TO OBASANJO: KEEP QUIET!

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo who described the PDP as a dying Party last Saturday when self-imposed factional chairman of PDP visited him in his Abeokuta Hill Top mansion has been told to shut up!

Giving the verdict in Lagos when contacted on phone was Comrade Femi Dosumu, Acting President of League of Patriotic Nigerians.  Comrade Dosumu who was visibly incensed by Obasanjo’s remarks declared: “Obadanjo is simply lucky that legal processes in Nigeria are upheld more in the breech, otherwise that man would be behind bars long ago”.

Not done yet, Comrade Dosumu continued: “who is Obasanjo to keep talking about Nigeria’s affairs?  A man who arguably presided over the PDP affairs for over sixteen years? A man who revolutionalized corruption in the entire system?  He should be hiding himself in that his filthy Hilltop mansion”, he told the Expose News.

The former President is no stranger to Nigeria’s Democratic process.  He first came to highlight at age 29, along with veterans like T.Y. Danjuma, Murtala Mohammed, Hassan Usman Katsina, Yakubu Gowon, Ibrahim Babangida to mention just few.

By 1976, fate bestowed on him the mantle of leadership, although he had been operating within the power loop before disaster struck, taking the life of General Murtala Mohammed in a bloody coup.  He was to be sent to prison by late General Sani Abacha who was on the verge of signing his death warrant before death snatched him away.

It is this respite that allowed General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) along with some powerful and influential Northern Turks to bring Obasanjo back to power in 1999 - through the Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria – the same Party he now vilifies at every corner!

For the next eight years, 1999 – 2007, Obasanjo was to rule with iron fists and rather combative manner.  While he traveled extensively in his first tenure claiming, to scout for investors, his second tenure was largely wasteful, deceptive and uncharacteristic of a man the nation so much trusted.  Obasanjo’s undemocratic trademarks left no sector untouched.

Records show that the retired military General performed dismally in virtually all the critical sectors with unprecedented serial policy failures.  For instance, trillions of naira was injected into the electricity sector with no result, only total failure.  The same pronounced failures were recorded in the Railway sector where he poured billions. Till date, no one knows how NITEL was destroyed under Obasanjo’s tutelage.  That Commission was sold for peanuts as well as Ajaokuta and Delta Steel companies under the guise of privatization, thus ending the dream of Nigeria to be fully industrialized, despite his over hyped economic and social reforms!

As if possessed; while his personal wealth increased with corrupt establishment of Obasanjo’s library, Bell University, expansion of his ill-gotten Ota farms, the Nation elapsed into “anarchy” with his “coded” ill advised third term gambit.  To actualize that craze, Obasanjo bribed the National Assembly Members with 50 million each for Senators and 40 million for Reps members.  “When people refer to the PDP as a corrupt Party, they are indeed pointing at Obasanjo”, said Comrade Dosumu.  By the time, he was eventually forced out of office, the nation discovered that their debt portfolio had again worsened rubbishing the credit he took for an earlier bailout by the Paris club and World Bank. “Is Nigeria better today with failed promises, poverty and bad roads?  Even his next door Lagos-Ibadan road he failed to rebuild”, fumes Comrade Dosumu.  That is the man that is still talking.

Kuje, a suburb in the capital city of Abuja is witnessing an unusual traffic: hundreds of worshippers are seen trooping to stadium road in Kuje where Bishop David Edobor, General Overseer of the Joshua Generation Church is blazing the trail, performing spiritual feats, healing, delivering and restoring damaged destinies. STOP THE ILLEGAL DETENTIONS IN ICPC NOW BUHARI TOLD

The Independent Corrupt Practice and Other Related Matters Offences Commission (ICPC) were set as an anti-corruption agency to rein in persons involved in suspected shady deals and sharp practices. But in recent times as investigations have revealed The commission appears to have derailed as it is fast losing that tag as an anti-corruption agency.  Preliminary investigations have unearthed some sharp practices of illegal detentions on spurious charges, unauthorized raid and sealing of victims houses and unwarranted blockages of victim’s accounts. “This bad practice must be discontinued” declared Mr Rafiu Ibrahim, Secretary-General of Association for Good Governance and Transparency (AFGT). Throwing more light on the sad development, the Secretary-General wondered why the ICPC would detain without charges any suspected Nigerian for upwards of two weeks without proceeding to court, while systematically extorting various sums of money from the detained Nigerian.  The Secretary-Ge...
