How the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan frittered away the nation’s scarce resources is beginning to spill out – despite the shrill insistence by ex-Finance Minister, Okonjo Iweala that the records sheet were clean!
Information pieced together by our investigators
show that several paramilitary Agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior
shared a record 10 billion each for the purpose of influencing the March 28
General Elections in favour of the defeated incumbent. However, things did not go down well with the
ranks and file during the sharing.
Outgoing Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Boss
(name withheld) was said to have misappropriated the huge booty by allegedly
pocketing 5 billion for himself, while declaring the other half (5 billion) as
the sum total. The bone of contention
was that while the rank and file received 40,000 each some key associates close
to the big guns went home with a hefty slice.
Causing the rumble.
Sources say this was the same at other
paramilitary and military agencies whose officers only got wind of the deal
after complaining bitterly before the crumbs were thrown grudgingly at them.
Still on the subject of illegal disbursements, while
the nation reeled in poverty, the ex-president went ahead to approve and
swiftly pay warlords from the South-South and South-West parts of the country billions
for worthless oil pipeline contract. One
of the security outfits belonging to the warlords allegedly received 2.5
billion for 3 months consecutively. But
now, mercifully these useless contracts have been cancelled.
This is not to mention the billions disbursed to
traditional Rulers, political chieftains, women and youth leaders. Some of whom got as much as $2 million each.
Chief Femi Fani Kayode reportedly bought a Range
Rover Jeep for his girlfriend at a whopping cost of $70,000! So much for an administration that struggled
to stay on for another 4 years! “This is why the nation is broke” said
Abdullahi Goje, a businessman in Garki.
“Now the nation cannot pay salaries and slowly the economy is dying”, he
declared
