There is no time to reflect on
what went wrong anymore. But for now
there two clear fallouts: the one questions the place of fairness and justice
in our country under the APC led administration and the other questions the
compensation of adjudged wrong doings. Nevertheless, the bitter feud between
Oshiomole—who is undoubtedly the rave of the moment albeit for the wrong
reasons—and Obaseki has ended in the masterful and tactical dismissal of the
latter from the All Progressive Congress, the party they all helped to fund—in a
democratic dispensation. This is
outright injustice perpetrated with State machinery as it seems—and the full
glare of the overall leadership of this nation. This vengeful backlash has been
long in the making with the long train of brash, rude and disrespectful manner issues
are resolved within the same APC led administration under Oshiomole as APC
chairman, a position that has seemingly sent wrong imaginations into his
thinking faculty. A few will suffice
here. Oshiomole had dared senator Bukola
Saraki, former senate president telling him autocratically
that he would be removed from office either by
hook or crooked means; he
confronted Ngige and ordered him to
retrace an officially agreed step but the latter stood his grounds; when the
courts declared governor Diri duly elected, Oshiomole barked: “Diri will not be
sworn in”! This few examples catalog the trail of the iron-fisted style of
Oshiomole under a supposed democratic dispensation. The traumatic experience he subjected Obaseki
in the last few years –not allowing him free hand—has now culminated in a
chaotic and hazardous denial of his rights—again, with the entire APC structure
of leadership watching. The exploitation, conflict of interest, travesty of
justice and torture has comprehensively dethroned the culture of loyalty,
honesty and patriotism. The message is clear: here, there is no place for
integrity, neither honor nor heroism. This is diametrically opposed to civilized
norms and practical leadership—the type that built Singapore, Dubai and Thailand.
The message here is that we cannot expect democratic dividends but lies and
lies and lies while the gamely few overpower their way to the treasury. That’s it;
it is all a game! The present fast and furious generation of Nigerians have
been taken for granted, manipulated at will- and --left to rot under the weight
of maladministration—no light, water, roads, and worse: left to contend with
the heavy burden of debt. Now no one remembers the looted Benin Specialists
Hospital anymore; the so called EFCC 700 million case dangling on one of the favorites
to contest election has suddenly vanished! Time will tell if evil will continue
to triumph over good. For Obaseki, he must continue in the path of seeking for
justice; Though, like the Biblical David, he must go back to Ziglag and reclaim
his mandate; he cannot be cowed; he is not a coward; he must withstand the
darts and arrows of his tormentors; leaving now will only subject him to
further turmoil. We are all humans; provided it is tolerated, everyman must
protect himself when it seems the law has failed. We will not forget Obaseki’s
powerful, illuminating and highly educative style of governance, which has sent
jitters in to the camp of his enemies. The future belongs to the risks
takers---not the comfort seekers!
