The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot just support the prefered direct primary option for the Edo APC primary just because they relate only with the national chairman and secretary of the Party. This views are contained in a statement issued by the Covener of Voice of the Electorate(VOTE), Mr Suleiman Oyofo. "They know what is on gorund and should be able to adjudicate on the matter", he said. "By giving the direct primary tacit approval when the national chairman is an interested party to the crisis in Edo State is a direct admission of support which shouldnt be", the converner observed. "What is expected of INEC is to adopt a middle of the road approach rather than throw their weight behind something that has been overwhelmingly rejected by the entire Edo people", Suleiman declared. He drew the INEC attention to the existing rules discouraging public gtathering at this time of covid-19 and wondered why INEC should choose this path. Sulieiman then hailed the reaction by the Edo State government in gazetting ban on public gathering. "Very correct; if the INEC claims to be observing the rules, then there is a law on ground in the State they have to obey", he stated. A situation where other notable parties are allowed to choose the indirect primary option while others are forced becuase of the intesrest of one man should be outrightly condemned. Mr Oyofo then ecouraged Obaseki/Shaibu to stand their grounds adding that we are in a democratic dispensation. "We thought the national chairman boasted that he has never lost any election; why is he then afraid to allow indirectprimary election?", Suleiman asked.
