“It is TCN’s Handwork, not my miracle”, Says Minister of Power, Tegbe, As Lekki And Alausa Projects Commissioned

In a span of four days, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN), has brought to light four powerful new projects commissioned by the honorable Minister of Power, Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, located in the heart of Ijora, Apapa, the latest being Lekki and Alausa. This very significant development automatically translates to over 200,000 Lagosians benefiting from the added megawatts to the grid

“People say it is by my miracle hands that   Nigeria’s electricity sector is being transformed”, the honorable Minister of Power says in his opening remarks at the commissioning of the Alausa 1 x 100, 132/33KV Power Transformer. Still, on the contrary, he declared,
“No, it is the handiwork of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) who is making him proud and his job easy!” Instead of taking the credit, he extolled the virtues of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he says, again, is determined to transform Nigeria’s electricity sector to raise the economy to a one-trillion-naira level. “We are going to break more barriers,” he said in his speech, telling TCN officials that Epe, a riverine suburb in the State, should be the next bus stop for the current revolution going on.

He also appealed to officials of Eko Electricity Distribution Company not to shy away from taking more “power loads” so that more people can benefit from this Federal Government gesture. The very excited minister told the audience that included officials of the World Bank and the Contractors that the significance of this commissioning goes beyond an ordinary engineering project. “Ikeja is where ambition meets the industrial demands of the nation”, he said, stressing that as one of the key industrial hubs of the nation, businesses, households and other ancillary concerns will have a new lease of life and increased productivity. “We identify the bottlenecks, remove the constraints and promptly replace all the replaceable”, he announced in high spirits.

Once again, he repeated, “this is not a miracle by TCN; it is the determined effort of leadership that is well focused and doesn’t give excuses”. While giving special thanks to the contractors and the World Bank, the minister noted that this new project, which will allow more than 200,000 residents to enjoy regular electricity, is just the beginning. “We are not stopping here; wherever possible we will go, Alaba, Okota, Isolo, Akoka, and beyond; Tinubu is ready to stamp his authority in expanding the electricity sector”, he declared.

Also speaking at the Lekki Transmission Substation, where 2 x 60 MVA, 132/33KV Transformers were commissioned the same Tuesday, August 18, 2026, he reminded TCN to look beyond Lekki down to the communities that equally need attention. He said the Lekki commissioning sends a strong message that the Federal Government is not static: “Soon, Lekki will have another substation”, he says, acknowledging that electricity unlocks economic potentials as much as the increasing population. “There is always a need to improve the bulk electricity to be supplied”, he noted, revealing that by November 26, 2026, a new 1 X 300MVA will come on board in the same Lekki.

Once again, the minister was full of praise for the TCN, especially the managing director, whom he branded “very loyal and hardworking”. Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Energy Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, had nothing but praise for the minister and TCN. “We are seeing a government organization that works,” he declared, stating that as far as he is concerned “it is TCN and others” while trying to access performing government agencies. The commissioner noted that without energy, very little can be done in terms of development. “Electricity drives the economy, and the people of Lagos State are very happy to see this development”, he said.

By completing the commissioning of the four projects, TCN has sent a strong message to critics who often rely on misinformation to peddle false stories.  And as discovered, most of the critics do not really question the ability of TCN to deliver; instead, they focus on selfish motives, pointing at anything but performance! “Now everyone can see that the TCN Managing Director is unmoved”, noted Mr. Kunle Ajebo, a freelance journalist at the site of commissioning. “The man is such a silent achiever, preferring to focus on his commitment to the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria”, he observed, explaining that such a man is actually a prized asset to Nigerians.

These projects that have just been commissioned were last tinkered with in 1985, and since then a lot of promises which did not go beyond the lips have been in the air. Apapa, once a beehive of industrial activities, was almost brought to its knees by incessant power fluctuations. “Now, all that is in the past”, says Godfrey Ughamadu, also a freelance journalist, who also revealed that the bedrock of any nation is the reliability of electricity generated and transmitted. Godfrey wished that every other government parastatal should emulate the revolution spearheaded by TCN.

The aftermath of the commissioning is expected to boost the standard of living and new lease of life for the once booming economy. According to further information reaching our reporters, the TCN is set to commission brand new Transformers and sub-stations across the country, beginning from Jalingo, in Taraba State which comes as early as before the end of August 2026. As for Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, he is all thanks to God and the support from his colleagues at the management level and the staff of TCN, not to mention the minister who has consistently given him the leverage to work!

Sahara Reporters, Premium Times, The Cable and Modern Journalism

Journalism has continued to evolve since the days of veterans like Professors Alfred Opubor, Onoura Nwuneli, Ralph Akinfeleye, Adidi Uyo, Idowu Sobowale, and other greats, not to mention the shining lights of flawless prose writing like Dan Agbese, Ray Ekpu, Yakubu Muhammed, Dele Gowa, and not least, Olatunji Dare. But the entrance of Sahara Reporters appears to deviate from those widely held pragmatic principles of decency. Stories by our reporters In those days, the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Lagos was very hot and remains so to date. Exciting lecturers in the mold of Dr Adidi Uyo, Ralph Akinfeleye, and Idowu Sobowale made teachings very robust and thirsty to listeners. Students learnt the trade and picked up fast. They taught the tenets of practical journalism exhaustively and left no stone unturned. They made journalism so sweet that students were always hungry to learn more; the thrills were such that even the 13 points cut-off mark for entry ...

Trouble looms over Court order seeking Exhumation of corpse of prominent Igbo Family

A recent court order widely regarded as an assault on customs and decency, seeking the exhumation of the corpse of a prominent Igbo chief, is largely seen as a misuse of judicial authority, and fear the backlash may lead to disruption of communal peace. By Clement Ebaku and Lucy Okulougbo reporting from Owerri. Tension has escalated surrounding the Amuchienwa family following a contentious order issued on 5 December 2025 by Justice I.O. Agugua, directing the exhumation of the remains of the late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Dona Amuchienwa, who was laid to rest on 17 October 2025. The directive, made nearly two months after the burial, has sparked widespread outrage, with many describing it as a shocking affront to the dignity of the deceased.
