As another general election draws near, Soft Public Opinion Research Company recently went out and conducted an Opinion Poll on the 2023 promise made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on making good his promise of steady electricity supply to Nigerians and the discovery is amazing; with the Ministry of Power and the Transmission Company(TCN) spearheading the race, the research uncovered a stunning reality of concentrated effort to break the Gordian Knot decades old grip of darkness which has held the nation spellbound and broken, about to be completely wiped out!

If the truth be told, Electricity has been more
than a stumbling block to development in Nigeria; a laughing stock that
steadily confronted every imagination of citizens and almost destroyed the
strong morale Nigerians are known for, with the malaise wreaking havoc over the
years! Several reforms initiated to curb the hydra-headed monster left the
different political leadership not only bewildered but confused. This statement
is no fluke; it led the TCN Managing Director, Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdul-Aziz, an
otherwise very articulate man, jokingly said at a meeting with some Rights
Campaigners: “We are always under pressure here in TCN; besides, if there
is darkness in the daytime possibly because of eclipse, they will say TCN is
responsible!” And as a result, he says, “We are always on our toes;
and if there is sudden breakdown somewhere in the forest as a result of
vandalism or flooding or natural causes, you are expected to act immediately;
otherwise uproar follows”. “There is no excuse for failure”, he added
ruefully.
But his own situation is child's play when
compared to someone gunning for the top seat as the president of Nigeria! If
Engr. Sule is always under pressure, then anyone can imagine Tinubu’s mindset.
Perhaps, this prompted him, while campaigning for
the hot seat in 2023, to take the issue of electricity, as boiling point, to
unequivocally declare as follows “By all means necessary, you must have
electricity; If I don’t keep this promise and I come back to office after four
years, don’t vote for me” This was not a statement to take for granted.
Tinubu, being a celebrated socialite and cosmopolitan icon, by no means
understood the implications too well.
He has already blazed the trail, setting in
motion brilliant national reforms designed to uproot the nation from the
denizen of stagnation; earth-shaking reforms such as the State Police Bill,
Pension overhaul, Student and farmer’s loans, not to mention the Lagos-Calabar
coastal highway; now for the juggernaut of frequent grid collapse! Only last
week, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, under the supervision of the
Ministry of Power, broke through barriers with the unprecedented commissioning
of four substations in Lagos State. The commissioning, which caught the
attention of all Nigerians, set tongues wagging and actually signaled a flurry
of activities, amongst them the conduction of this opinion research to discover
if that launch was just a one-off situation.
At last, the research put in place by this
reputable research company found that the Lagos commissioning was merely a
teaser, a tip of the giant iceberg of projects the Federal Government has
actually established. The staggering result, which is bound to rock the nation
in good stead and seal the second coming of President Bola Tinubu, is the final
Nunc Dimittis of frequent grid collapse in Nigeria! The research found out that
contrary to previous suspicions, the Federal Government is indeed deeply rooted
to overpowering the irritant of power failures; the research found out that,
against the odds of liquidity hurdles, the government has bravely withered the
storm and confronted the issue of electricity with a sledge hammer and right
now, with this reality, Tinubu is indeed coasting home to victory ahead the
2027 general elections! At the rate the Ministry of Power and the Transmission
Company are delivering with the little funds at their disposal, it is a
foregone conclusion what the outcome will be!
From Lagos, where the action began, the train
moves to Jalingo in Taraba State and from thence to Kano, where in Dakata, Dan
Agundi, Kankia, Ganmo, New Kano and Kumbotso powerful transformers are awaiting
commissioning; a whopping total of 9,800MVA is right now on the ground to boost
power supply fully loaded and ready! From Birnin Kebbi to Damaturu, Maiduguri,
New Bauchi, Yola, Mayo Belwa, Old Bauchi, Potiskum, Biu, Jos, Gombe, Biliri,
the TCN is firmly rooted, the research discovered. Both the South East, South
South and South West are firmly carried along as well; From Oshogbo, Ilorin,
Ondo, through Effurn, Ughelli, Benin, Irrua, down to Orji River, Onitsha,
Oturkpo, Umuahia, Port Harcourt, Alaoji, Ugwuaji, Apir, Itu, New Haven,
Abakaliki and Aba, a ground breaking total of 84 new transformers of various
capacities 60MVA, 100MVA, 300MVA including two giant Reactors have been
installed by the Tinubu administration.
And as the poll found out, 85% of Nigerians
applauded the remarkable development, saying that “this is the first time we
are witnessing a dramatic shift in governance”; the respondents interviewed
agreed that the duo of Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe and Engr. Sule Ahmed
Abdul-Aziz are really delivering the goods as expected by Nigerians; they
agreed that both of them are the right materials to drive the process, as can
be seen from the evidence on the ground! The respondents interviewed cut across
both males and females and ages between 18 years and 45.
The research found that the reappointment
of Engr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, the current arrowhead of the TCN, is one in the
right direction. Now, his pioneering of Tinubu’s promise confirms his ability
to deliver. And as the research concludes, if the pace of development continues
at this rate, Nigeria will know no darkness by 2031 when Tinubu would have
completed his second term! And since electricity is the bedrock of
industrialization, it is your guess what the economy will look like by then.
Truly, his promise has become a reality!
