Let’s quickly take two powerful scriptures. “Isaiah 42 v 7 “to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from prison and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house”. Praise the Lord. The second scripture is taken from Isaiah 4 v 13 “Therefore my people are gone into captivity because they have no knowledge and their honourable men are famished and their multitude dried up with thirst”. Praise the Lord, amen. Brethren, we are speaking on the topic “God is still on the throne”! These scriptural examples are clear evidence that knowledge is essential in the progress and development of man. In the course of life, there are mysteries unexplained that leave you confused but certainly not God. Thus, it is possible to be in bondage—prison-- yet walk free aimlessly in the streets. That’s why it is possible to have a certificate but no work; that’s why it is possible to be married but without a child. Brethren, when you are blind and sit in darkness, you may be the most handsome in your family but still wallow in abject poverty; without knowledge it would be difficult to escape the consequences; The Bible says “my people perish for lack of knowledge”, but I have you here believe that even in that situation, God has not abandoned you. You may be famished, you may be thirsty, but I tell you the glory of God remains a potent cover for you. Praise the Lord. In verse 8 of that same chapter, God says “Iam the Lord; that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven image”! This is the beauty of God our father. In Galatians 5 v. 1 the Bible tells us “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” And in Ephesians 4 v 27, we read of “Neither gives place to the devil”! Stand fast and neither give place to the devil. Pray fervently, seek the face of God in all things; never give up, for our God neither sleep nor slumber! These are strong admonitions for us Christians. Philippians 2 v. 10, ‘That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth”! Look at this beautiful scripture; that at the name of Jesus….things under the earth…should (bow)…wonderful. Brethren, our God is a consuming fire. No matter what you are going through today, believe it that you shall emerge victorious. How wicked can the world be to consign some people into captivity and some the region of darkness? God has told us: His glory will He not give to another. Just be in the
faith; don’t give in to the devices of the devil. Victory is assured when you make Jesus Christ your saviour. Fear not for those who boast and pride themselves in their evil works. Praise the Lord. As we round up take up your armour of faith; believe in your God for it is Him that giveth you the power to make wealth. And for those who worship Him in truth, you can be sure to overcome all travails. Therefore, awake earthmen, listen to your creator and be saved for they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.
Journalism has continued to evolve since the days of veterans like Professors Alfred Opubor, Onoura Nwuneli, Ralph Akinfeleye, Adidi Uyo, Idowu Sobowale, and other greats, not to mention the shining lights of flawless prose writing like Dan Agbese, Ray Ekpu, Yakubu Muhammed, Dele Gowa, and not least, Olatunji Dare. But the entrance of Sahara Reporters appears to deviate from those widely held pragmatic principles of decency. Stories by our reporters In those days, the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Lagos was very hot and remains so to date. Exciting lecturers in the mold of Dr Adidi Uyo, Ralph Akinfeleye, and Idowu Sobowale made teachings very robust and thirsty to listeners. Students learnt the trade and picked up fast. They taught the tenets of practical journalism exhaustively and left no stone unturned. They made journalism so sweet that students were always hungry to learn more; the thrills were such that even the 13 points cut-off mark for entry ...
