It
is difficult what to make out of the country Nigeria. What is even more mind boggling is the mindset
of the leadership. Across board, there
seems to be not an answer to the myriad of unpredictability that abounds
everywhere. Blackouts, fuel queues, erratic banking services, increasing
costs, kidnapping, robbery and far the greater—the recent abduction of the
Dapchi girls! Are we to still talk about the rampaging herdsmen who appear to
have made life so cheap? Suddenly, the truth dawns on all of us: Nigeria is not
for the poor but for the ruling class!
Against
this backdrop it seems ridiculous that politicians are still talking about 2019
election! But, here, that seems normal -
a way of life. “Nigerians cannot do anything”, you often hear leaders boast. Apparently,
the only environment where the law seems applicable is when a big man is
involved. The rest are whimsically
subverted – and breached. Strangely, it seems as though powerful individuals
have successfully cornered the Nigerian Constitution and of course there could be
an internal conspiracy to keep it subdued!
