Right? Well,
this may not be true. As obtained in other clime, the Constitution of the land
is sacrosanct and revered, but not so in Nigeria, where powerful individuals
trample on it at will not to mention the enthronement of Religion and Politics over
its sacred implementation.
In Nigeria,
you look at where you come from before taking any decision”, said Dauda Abubakar,
a staff of one government’s numerous parastatals at the Federal Capital.
“Government appointees interpret the constitution based on who is Hausa or
Yoruba, not what the constitution says”, said Ilya Usman who prefers to remain
anonymous.
The result?
Obviously the failure of leadership! Leadership comes alive only when allocations
are being made, or corrupt persons are being castigated or various loots
recovered. “leadership in Nigeria means: drive in a convoy of cars, live in
Opulence, travel abroad frequently and generally host birthday function and
talk big on television,” said Magnus Onyeama. Leadership in Nigeria does not
include protection of lives and properties neither guarantee of regular income
or provision of amenities such as electricity, good roads and shelter!. Look at
the Federal Integrated Staff Housing Scheme, a project meant to provide Houses
for Federal Civil Servants; for three years now, no head no tail, “disclosed Umar
Aliyu who was visibly irked. It is all about deception’, he concluded.
