THE RECENT BENUE KILLINGS: FAILURE OF LEADERSHIP

Nigeria continues to watch in amazement or is it bewilderment as perpetrators of the Benue killings, as in Zamfara, Agatu or elsewhere remain elusive. Despite strong evidence, the killers continue to roam the wilds and threaten more attacks. The leadership of APC, the Police, the Army, all remains unmoved holding Stakeholders meeting, blaming everyone but themselves while the affiliated groups such as Miyetti Allah rent the air with more daring chants Never before has the country descended to this abysmal level of failure in leadership. When petty crooks commit their usually hunger driven crime, they are caught and mercilessly punished. But now the murderous ones, who engage in brutality, spend hours attacking and setting villages ablaze and yet escape with the state looking on, you then know something is terribly wrong. “Nigeria must be a class of people resigned to suffering and punishment”, said Victor Edafe. “So much bloodshed, blackouts, needless strife over cattle rearing,...

NIGERIA: THE FAILURE OF THE CONSTITUTION?

Right? Well, this may not be true. As obtained in other clime, the Constitution of the land is sacrosanct and revered, but not so in Nigeria, where powerful individuals trample on it at will not to mention the enthronement of Religion and Politics over its sacred implementation. In Nigeria, you look at where you come from before taking any decision”, said Dauda Abubakar, a staff of one government’s numerous parastatals at the Federal Capital. “Government appointees interpret the constitution based on who is Hausa or Yoruba, not what the constitution says”, said Ilya Usman who prefers to remain anonymous. The result? Obviously the failure of leadership! Leadership comes alive only when allocations are being made, or corrupt persons are being castigated or various loots recovered. “leadership in Nigeria means: drive in a convoy of cars, live in Opulence, travel abroad frequently and generally host birthday function and talk big on television,” said Magnus Onyeama. Leadership in N...

WHERE IS THE HELP FROM U.N?

That President Donald Trump recently chided the United Nation only goes to show the level the supposed watchdog of the world has deteriorated. This followed the aftermath reaction of Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of Isreal, something the United Nations has pussy footed over the years! Within four days of that declaration, the U.N hastily convened to oppose the move, a development that enraged President Donald Trump and left the Jewish lobby group fuming. There was also unprecedented backlash worldwide. A close study of the United Nation history may however vindicate President Trump bold decision. Since the coming of the Mullahs in the Iranian Republic, the United Nation has been unable to curtail their thirst for nuclear weapon as did the North Korea. Syria has been a conundrum while Nyanmar has been a progrom. Across other spheres of the world, the rise of terrorism has gone unabated: the murderous Islamic state Movement (ISIS), the Hezbollah in Leb...

PALESTINE AFTER ABBAS OUTBURST: WHAT NEXT?

President Mahmood Abbas finally threw the garment of pretense  away and exposed what all along has been their hidden though subdued opinion: their morbid hatred for Israel! To President Abbas, the 82 year old moderate who ascended the levers of power thirteen years ago, Isreal should not exist, should never have existed; said he. “This is a contraption of colonial powers, a deception and make belief.” Abbas even doubted the story of the holocaust and suggested that Palestine would now push for One State Solution. Abbas opinion may have been belated but the question is what next? One undeniable fact is: trust has completely eroded. By his unguarded outburst-arguably-accentuated by the President Trump’s declaration of Jerusalem as Isreal’s Capital, the Jews would now become intractably hardened. The Palestinians have spent nearly 70 years contesting the right of Isreal to exist; Pundits are of the opinion that had those years been spent in building a reputation as peace lo...

Prince James Erebuoye, the President of Nigerians in Diaspora in Nigeria has thrown his weight behind Sir Friday Nwosu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party. Nwosu   who  contested the December 8, 2014 PDP Governorship Primaries in Abia State had sued Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu claiming that the Governor had presented false information and tax documents to INEC in respect of his PAYE tax documents as well as other pieces of false information in INEC Form CF 001 which Dr Ikpeazu completed and signed under oath, contrary to Section 31(5)(6) of thee 2010 Electoral Act, as amended. The Supreme Court has reserved judgement for January 18, 2018 to hear and determine the case. The Diaspora Chief James Erebuoye had declared while addressing the press today, at the NUJ Center, Abuja Branch that for whatever be the case, the law must take its course for anyone found guilty. Said he: " If the Governor is found guilty, then he should be shown the door; Nwosu has done the right thing ...
