BENIN–EGBIN 330kv TRANSMISSION LINE RESTORED AS TCN WORKS TO REINSTATE BENIN–OMOTOSO 330kv LINE

The national grid voltage instability experienced earlier this morning around the Lagos corridor, leading to the loss of some generating stations, has been swiftly repaired and is back in action. This incredible reaction
is a powerful confirmation of the renewed hope agenda spirit being enforced by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration.

Report by Godwin Adigizi, from Lagos and Abuja.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has swiftly restored a power supply disruption that occurred earlier today, 25th June 2026, in the Lagos complex. This, our reporters can confirm, based on reports from the field across the affected areas.

In what is described as unprecedented by members of the general public, the Transmission Company received strong commendations for reacting swiftly to the development, and praises were showered on the field engineers for their patriotic approach in resolving an otherwise difficult situation.

And rising to the occasion, the General Manager of Public Affairs of the company, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, released a statement to the press, which conveyed the good news to members of the public. The statement, which was cited by our reporters, reads as follows:

“At approximately 8:19 am this morning, the national grid experienced voltage instability which rapidly spread across the Lagos corridor, leading to the loss of some generating stations, causing transmission line outages, and the subsequent interruption of electricity supply to Lagos and its environs”, the statement reads.

Continuing, she says, “In response, the National Control Centre swiftly instructed several generators to reduce output to arrest the resulting frequency rise, stabilize the system, and prevent further disruption to the national grid”.

And following suit, according to the statement, “The Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, immediately upon receiving the report, convened an emergency meeting with the Heads of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) to coordinate urgent restoration efforts and chart the way forward”.

This move resulted in mobilizing men and resources to the affected areas within a record time, and the result is that the Benin –Egbin 330kV transmission line, which was opened during the incident, has already been restored and is currently transmitting bulk electricity.

The statement explains that in furtherance of quickly rectifying the situation, the TCN unleashed a combined team of engineers from Benin and Omotoso subregions who are right now on the field working assiduously to rectify the remaining faults noticed on the 330kV Benin - Omotoso transmission line, to ensure full restoration of bulk power supply to the Lagos complex as quickly as possible.

The highly dependable General Manager let it be known that TCN is not resting on its oars and wishes to assure all electricity customers in the affected areas of its strong commitment towards providing a stable electricity supply.

She explained that the Ministry of Power and all relevant agencies are doing everything possible to rectify the fault, to enable normal bulk power transmission along the affected line. “Our goal is to stabilize and strengthen the national grid, to minimize such recurrence”, she disclosed.

Thanking Nigerians for their support and promising to issue updates, she again reiterated that all hands are on deck to restore bulk power supply through the Benin – Omotoso transmission line as soon as possible.

Sahara Reporters, Premium Times, The Cable and Modern Journalism

Journalism has continued to evolve since the days of veterans like Professors Alfred Opubor, Onoura Nwuneli, Ralph Akinfeleye, Adidi Uyo, Idowu Sobowale, and other greats, not to mention the shining lights of flawless prose writing like Dan Agbese, Ray Ekpu, Yakubu Muhammed, Dele Gowa, and not least, Olatunji Dare. But the entrance of Sahara Reporters appears to deviate from those widely held pragmatic principles of decency. Stories by our reporters In those days, the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Lagos was very hot and remains so to date. Exciting lecturers in the mold of Dr Adidi Uyo, Ralph Akinfeleye, and Idowu Sobowale made teachings very robust and thirsty to listeners. Students learnt the trade and picked up fast. They taught the tenets of practical journalism exhaustively and left no stone unturned. They made journalism so sweet that students were always hungry to learn more; the thrills were such that even the 13 points cut-off mark for entry ...
